You might be wondering...                      last updated 10/28/2007

  • Two Board positions open this December.  Consider donating your time and expertise once a month.  The term is for three years.  If interested, please submit your name and short bio to Patti at May Management or via email to smlboard@smlinfo.org by October 31, 2007.  Someone with financial experience is desirable.
  • November 13th 6 pm in the clubhouse - annual budget meeting to discuss and approve next year's budget.
  • The annual meeting will be held December 11, 2007.  The entire community is welcome...don't forget to send in your voting proxy if you cannot attend this meeting.   Please send in your votes in order to establish a quarum.   It is very costly to everyone to hold a second annual meeting and election.
  • The community affairs committee (aka, social committee) met last week...watch for info and sign up for new clubs and events.   Also, a BIG thank you to Laura Morey for organizing a successful Fall garage sale.
  • There are still a few homeowners who haven't paid the HOA assessment.  Please contact May Mgt to make payment arrangements.  Remember, late charges continue to accrue.
  • Social Committee is revving up....contact Laura Morey. lauramorey@comcast.net   Remember, without volunteers we will not be able to plan events such as the parades, gatherings, etc.
  • Help needed for holiday decorating.   Create and hang wreaths and lights.  Contact smlboard@smlinfo.org.

  • High water level update....
  • Several times this year, the clubhouse bathrooms have been vandalized:  toilets and sinks plugged up, soap spread on the floors and walls, burns/fires, etc.  These are likely caused by our own children and their guests.  We are locking the bathrooms every evening but need your help policing these areas during the day.  If you witness vandalism, please report events or dangerous conditions in the bathrooms to May Management or the SML Board of Directors.
  • New event signs have been installed at both entrances!
  •
  • CR210 Widening update.....
  • Pool closures...The community pool has had to be closed at least three times this season due to fecal matter and diapered children being the pool.  When this happens, the pool has to be chemically treated (an extra fee) and closed for 24 hours in order to keep swimmers safe.   The SML Board is considering options to resolve this problem.  Please, if your children are not potty trained they must use approved swim diapers in our pools.   Remember, the pool closes at dusk.  Persons under the influence are not permitted.  And please pick up your trash and children's toys and leave the area neat for other guests.  More information on this topic will be posted soon.
  • Recent vehicle break-ins....   Lock up, watch out for your neighbors and report suspicious activity to the Sheriff's office.  (904)824-8304  non-emergency number.  Of course, if it's an emergency call 911.
  • WE NEED YOU!!! Volunteers are needed for SML committees.    ARC, Civic Affairs, Community Affairs, and Covenants Enforcement Committees.
Without participation community events will not be organized.
  • The second installment of the yearly assessment will be due July 1st.  A statment should be mailed to every homeowner as a reminder.  After July 31st late charges will start to accrue.
  • ARC meetings are open to residents and are held the second Wednesday of each month, 4 p.m. in the community clubhouse.    See current schedule.  Remember to run any exterior modifications to your home (house paint colors, major landscaping, etc.) by the ARC committee prior to beginning work.  And don't forget to post the new "ARC Approved" sign in your yard when work begins.
  • The Board is looking for a few volunteers to participate in the Finance Committee.  This has been an inactive committee for quite some time but it was suggested, by a former member of the group,   that it would benefit the community to have a group dedicated to reviewing the monthly finances of the Association and aide the treasurer with planning and   budgeting.  Contact any Board member(email:  smlboard@smlinfo.org) or Tommy Reinheimer, our treasurer,  directly.
  • 2007   Budget and Assumptions
  • There is dwindling participation in the SML directory.  Should this effort be discontinuedin 2008?  Volunteers will be needed as well in order to continue to produce and distribut the directory next year.   Consider helping with ads and distribution.
  • Tennis courts survey results as of 11/13/2006:  66 in favor, 63 against.
  • Added a new budget line item in the budget for 2007.  Vandalism Repair $4200.  Most vandalism has occurred in the clubhouse bathrooms and recently the backstop at the athletic field.   Parents...discuss vandalism with your children and explain how the repair costs are passed on to the homeowners in the yearly assessments.
  • This year (2006), two homeowners approached the Board asking to revisit the idea of gating the community.  Each individual   had volunteered to update the figures and options of the study conducted three years ago but because of professional committments have decided that they just don't have to time to devote to the task.   At the August 2006 Board meeting, the Board briefly discussed security issues in the community and it was decided that the gating issue could be revisited in the future.  For the present time, the Board will continue to pursue other methods, such as police patrols, possibly surveillance cameras, neighborhood watch, etc., to increase the safety of our residents.   Be assured, Sawmill Lakes is a very safe community.  Sign up for safety alerts by emailing sml_safety@comcast.net.                                            SML Gate Study 2003
